It’s been a year and three months since my last post. A lot has changed, including the name of the business.

What started as Eli & Rett Consulting has evolved into OnCISO. But the name change is only part of the story.

I started with traditional consulting, drawing on how I worked at Deloitte. As I experimented, I began to see an opportunity: turn as much of that work as possible into software, and bring in human expertise where judgment and experience matter most.

That became the direction for OnCISO. Productize the repeatable work. Make experienced advisors available for the decisions that need them. Bring the cost down so cybersecurity becomes more accessible to entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Getting here has meant testing ideas, questioning assumptions, and being willing to change my mind.

We rarely get to see that part of someone else’s journey. We see the polished product, the confident pitch, the website that finally makes sense. We miss the awkward first versions and the ideas that didn’t quite work.

Sometimes I wish more social creators would leave their early work published. It would remind the rest of us that they weren’t brilliant at this from day one. They needed time, practice, feedback, and plenty of revisions. This is no different than creating a business.

I’m still in that process.

My gut gives me a reason to try something. Real-world data and feedback help me decide whether to keep going, adjust, or move on. I’m learning to trust my instincts enough to experiment and stay open enough to listen when the results challenge them.

If you’re building something too, give yourself permission to have an unpolished beginning. Try things. Pay attention. Change what needs changing.

You can take your ambition seriously without expecting your first attempt to be your final answer.

Fifteen months later, I’m building OnCISO with a clearer direction. This time, I want to share more of the work while it’s still taking shape.
